In order to ensure a coordinated framework of reception across member states, the European Union was quick to activate, for the very first time, the&nbsp;<strong>Temporary Protection Directive<\/strong>. Thanks to this directive, over 4 million Ukrainian refugees have gained access to essential services, including:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>a renewable residence permit;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>access to the labor market;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>access to adequate housing;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>access to healthcare and education systems.<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The activation of the directive demonstrated that a rapid and coordinated intervention is possible. However, as the war drags on, it has become necessary to address the<strong>&nbsp;challenges linked to the long-term presence of refugees in host countries<\/strong>, moving beyond emergency management.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/project\/humanityhub\/\">HumanityHub<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;was created in response to this need. The project aims to<strong>&nbsp;identify the barriers hindering the full socio-economic participation of Ukrainian refugees<\/strong>&nbsp;and to promote concrete pathways that truly meet their needs.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Through focus groups, participants have already highlighted how the lives of refugees are heavily affected by&nbsp;<strong>legal uncertainty<\/strong>, and how access to employment is hindered by structural barriers:&nbsp;<strong>language difficulties<\/strong>, the<strong>&nbsp;lack of recognition of professional qualifications&nbsp;<\/strong>obtained in their home country, and marginalization into&nbsp;<strong>precarious or underqualified jobs<\/strong>. These elements also help explain why entrepreneurial pathways often emerge as an alternative option.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Yet participation in the labor market \u2013 and the difficulties surrounding it, which in turn affect access to other services and to stable housing \u2013 also depends on meeting additional conditions:&nbsp;<strong>building social support networks<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>addressing the psychological vulnerabilities linked to conflict and displacement<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>paying attention to gender-specific needs<\/strong>. The majority of refugees are in fact women, many with children, which requires not only targeted attention but also access to essential services such as childcare and support facilities, so that both work and daily life can become sustainable.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>To address these challenges,<strong>&nbsp;HumanityHub brings together diverse expertise<\/strong>: the experience of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/rctzg.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rehabilitation Centre for Stress and Trauma (RCT)<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>developing psychosocial pathways<\/strong>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/act-grupa.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Act Group<\/a>\u2019s know-how in&nbsp;<strong>reskilling and entrepreneurship<\/strong>, and the legacy of the&nbsp;<strong>maieutic approach<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/\">Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci ETS<\/a>.
