On 25 May 2026, the first community event within the project HumanityHub: Where Cultural Inclusion Meets Economic Empowerment was held in Zagreb, Croatia.
During the event, the HumanityHub project, its main objectives, and the results achieved so far were presented. Particular emphasis was placed on the experience gained through implementing activities aimed at supporting the psychosocial and economic integration of people who fled Ukraine, as well as on the value of cross-sector cooperation in developing sustainable forms of support.
A total of 27 participants from 16 different organisations and institutions took part in the event. Among them were representatives of civil society organisations, public institutions from the employment, social work, and education sectors, organisations providing services to refugees, members of the Ukrainian community, and interested members of the general public.
Through various activities, participants reflected together on existing resources, identified needs, and possibilities for the further development of support for Ukrainian refugees in Croatia. The discussion focused on what is already available, what would be important to improve further, who could take on specific roles, and what resources would be needed. Participants also shared experiences from their own organisational and professional contexts, creating space for a concrete and meaningful exchange.
Suggestions were also collected from stakeholders regarding possibilities for continuing, adapting, and scaling the support model developed through the project. Participants reflected on the elements of the approach they considered particularly useful in working with people in the integration process, on possible contexts for its application, as well as on relevant stakeholders and potential funding sources that could support the continuation of similar activities in the future.
This event highlighted the importance of bringing together different actors around a shared goal — the development of more accessible, coordinated, and sustainable support for Ukrainian refugees.
